Institut Supérieur des Sciences de la Population (ISSP) is one of the five institutes of the Joseph Ki-Zerbo University of Ouagadougou which have the same status as the faculties. Its main mission is to conduct research and training. ISSP is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Georges Guiella and Fiacre Bazie.
PMA uses innovative mobile technology to support low-cost, rapid-turnaround surveys monitoring key health and development indicators. Surveys are completed by resident enumerators, uploaded to a central server via a mobile data network, cleaned and analyzed. Results are disseminated shortly after.

Institut Supérieur des Sciences de la Population (ISSP) is one of the five institutes of the Joseph Ki-Zerbo University of Ouagadougou which have the same status as the faculties. Its main mission is to conduct research and training. In terms of research, ISSP is organized around 3 research units: the Population and Health Research Unit, the Population and Education Research Unit and the Mobility, Housing and Environment Research Unit. In addition to these 3 units, there is a transversal research platform, the Ouagadougou Demographic Surveillance System (OHDSS).
In terms of training, ISSP currently offers 2 master's degrees (a professional master's degree in population and health and a master's degree in population science research). In addition to these 2 master’s degrees, there is a Bachelor degree in social statistics and many short-term training courses for professionals.
Georges Guiella, PhD
Dr. Georges Guiella is a professor and Deputy Director of the Higher Institute of Population Sciences (ISSP) at the Joseph Ki-Zerbo University in Ouagadougou. He is also the Director of the Francophone Hub for PMA. His research experiences include sexual and reproductive health, particularly that of adolescents and youth, including family planning and abortion. He also has an experience in evaluating Integrated Community Case Management of childhood diseases in the communities (iCCM). Dr. Guiella obtained his Master's degree in Demography from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) and his Doctorate in Demography from the University of Montreal (Canada).
Yentéma Onadja, Ph.D.
Dr. Yentéma Onadja supervises the technical aspects of the surveys for the Francophone Regional Hub of the PMA project. This includes managing analysis and the development of reports and manuscripts for the survey modules implemented for the Hub. Dr. Onadja is currently an Assistant Professor in Demography, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Social Statistics at the Institut Supérieur des Sciences de la Population (ISSP). He worked as a Research Officer at the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INSD) of Burkina Faso from 2008 to 2013. Trained in both demography and public health, his research interests focus on the health and well-being of mothers, children, adolescents and the elderly, as well as on the evaluation of public policies. In that capacity, he has coordinated numerous research projects and expertise work both nationally and internationally. Dr. Onadja has expertise in both cross-sectional and longitudinal data collection and analysis.
Fiacre Bazie, M. Sc. , M.IH.
Mr. Fiacre Bazie provides technical support for the implementation of the PMA surveys in Burkina Faso and in the countries of the Ouagadougou Partnership. He provides support for the research protocols conception/adaptation, local IRB approbation, training of field staff and coordinating data collection and dissemination activities. Mr. Bazie has a Master degree of Sociology from the Joseph Ki-Zerbo University of Ouagadougou and a Master degree of International Health from the Senghor University of Alexandria.
